@Twitter Find Me the Best #TravelDeals

May 26, 2011 | Posted by Brooke

It’s almost June and a summer vacay is on the brain for many. I love traveling and personally try to stay abreast of all the industry trends as I work so closely with the hospitality and tourism industry. Being that I am an FSC gal, I’m regularly perusing the internet for all things ground breaking and social media related, and with the thought of travel in my mind I came across a video by the flight search aggregation company Fare Compare, entitled, “How Twitter Can Save You Money on Airline Tickets.”

The video shows one how to get Twitter alerts from there site, promising you’ll find out about cheap airline tickets before anyone else. Naturally I gave them the big thumbs up for using Social Media so efficiently and went on to check my inbox, but as I was looking over my TripAdvisor newsletter, something dawned on me. What did we ever do before the internet to book all of our travel needs?

I find myself saying that pretty often about the “World Wide Web” in general. The conveniences and possibility it holds are truly mind blowing. To be fair, as a twenty-something, I have actually never used anything other than the internet to book my personal travel but c’mon, how amazing is it that we can simply go to Southwest.com while sitting on our couch at home and pick our flights? Let alone the exact times we need and the seats we’d prefer to sit in.

I can imagine what life must have been like having to go to a travel agent or having to physically walk up to the ticket kiosk in the airport but I can’t imagine not having the internet to book my personal travel. It’s not that I am particularly lazy, I really don’t mind going out and searching for what I really want (especially if I can use Twitter search), but the glory of Social Media is that it brings most of what we want right to us. So go out and explore, your next vacation could be just a “like” or a “follow” away.

What’s your go-to travel resource?
